Batucaxe drum and dance

Community
Batucaxe Community Group

Batucaxé is a remarkable community of musicians, dancers, adminstrators, supporters and fans who are committed to being a positive, contributing force in our city and world. Here are some of the ways we try to share that energy:

Performances. Our Community Group and Performance Group take the stage several times each year in support of festive events that celebrate diversity and appreciation. You'll hear us at Tucson Meet Yourself, Earth Day, Family Arts Festival, the University of Arizona's Language Fair, and many other events.

Partnerships. We join forces with other local organizations to share the load and spread the word, including Many Mouths One Stomach and the Tucson Pima Arts Council.

Guerilla Samba. One of our favorite pasttimes is to appear in unexpected places for unplanned performances. Nothing wakes you up from a normal day quite like a sudden jolt of samba... and we do like to wake people up, to remind them of our shared human heritage and our capacity for wonder, awe and joy.

Carnaval. Our annual Carnaval parade and celebration unites groups from around the city and provides an opportunity for businesses and civic leaders to join in the excitement.

Culture Night. Our monthly Culture Night gives us a chance to share music, videos and presentations of the life, culture and arts of Brazil, as well as good food and friendship.

Volunteer Committees. Including our Board of Directors and Event Committees,  these groups meet  regularly, using their experience, creativity and dedication to plan the organization's development and implement its projects. Many people share the responsibility for the group's accomplishments.

Helping Hands. Throughout the year our members mobilize to assist each other with house moves, yard work and other projects. Many hands make light work, and there's rarely a shortage of hands to help.

Behind the Scenes Heroics. Batucaxé owes a debt of gratitude to the unsung individuals who drive the vans, tune the drums, set up the stages, write the grants and perform so many other critical roles. Our deepest wishes of Axé to all of you!
